China’s Polluted Air is an Opportunity for Foreign Technology

The Chinese are finding it hard to breathe. According to the WHO, the proper air quality level for daily living is no more than 25 micrograms of pollution particles per meter cubed of air. During the first days of 2017 in Beijing, the concentration of pollution particles in the air passed 500 micrograms, over 20 times the limit!

Under these conditions, PTL Group, as a company that provides shared offices in China and offers services including business and operational support for foreign companies, strictly maintain air quality and their offices are equipped with all required air filtration equipment, as well as a measuring device which shows the air quality at all times.  The company, managed by Arie Schreier, was awarded first place in a competition held by gem in Shanghai, which tested the air quality in a large number of co-working spaces in the city. The competition tested the air quality using three parameters: 2.5PM (concentration of small particles that pass through the respiratory system), amount of carbon in the air and amount of VOCs.

The polluted air in China is also an opportunity for foreign technology companies. One of these companies is enVerid, who began its business in PTL Group's office in China. Recently enVerid has set-up an independent WFOE (Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprise), which still uses a part of PTL Group's outsourcing services, particularly its logistics assistance such as import and storage, etc. enVerid, who has raised over 30 million dollars and developed air purification products, is already operating in North America and serving large, well-known companies such as Google, IKEA, Citi Bank, Morgan Stanley and Cisco among their clients. Over the past year, enVerid began to operate in the Chinese market and now the phones in their Shanghai offices won't stop ringing!

The company's technology allows air to be recycled using a different method from all existing air purifiers. While common air purifiers work at the particle scale using a filtration method, enVerid has developed technology that traps molecules of poisonous gases and hazardous materials and allows only clean air to flow through the ventilation system. The purifiers developed by the company connect to the air conditioning system, absorb the pollutants from the air and thus reduce the need for external air for ventilation by 85%. Since in conventional methods it is necessary to replace the entire building's air volume between 10 and 20 times per day on average, and in enVerid's method the need for external air is significantly smaller, a great saving in energy consumption is achieved - and less polluted air enters the building from outside. This method is unique, and the company has registered over 60 patents for it, won many prizes for its innovations, and has support from the American energy department, which has awarded it millions of dollars in grants.
