A Letter from Head of China Marketing

Dear colleagues and friends,

During the years we have been working for international companies and managing their Chinese digital marketing channels, I’ve come to realize that due to language and cultural barriers, most digital marketers working in the West find it difficult to keep pace with the fast changing digital landscape and regulations in the Chinese market. In the first case, the Chinese digital landscape looks very different from that in the West, e.g. there is no Facebook or Google here. Moreover, regulations here are liable to change from time to time, and that may influence the marketing activities and available channels that can be used in this market.

Even if some of these companies have been working closely with their Chinese teams and have a fundamental understanding of the popular digital platforms in the Chinese market, essentially, achieving success in a digital marketing campaign in this country does not only lie in the knowledge of local tools, but more importantly in knowing the audience and how to “talk” to them.

This inspired me to launch the China Digital Marketing Insight, which aims to make life easier for my colleagues in the West by offering up-to-date information and insights that, somehow, are not available in English resources. We plan to send these insights once every quarter, and I would appreciate your kind feedback in terms of which topics should be included, and in which way they shall be drafted.
